Sixth Sense Salon’s Sensational Birthday Celebrations

Glamour, Laughter & Emotion as Sixth Sense Salon Celebrates 2nd Birthday

It was an evening of glamour, laughter and emotion when the Sixth Sense Salon team celebrated their second birthday in style at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

Salon owners Dean Vinning and Dean Robertson treated the 300-strong audience, including Sutton Coldfield Mayor Charlotte Hodivala, to an action-packed evening.   Sponsored by Wella and Nelson Recruitment Services, the event featured superb catwalk shows, awards and plenty of surprises.

One of the early highlights was a stunning catwalk show with professional models showcasing the salon’s latest hair Collection, the raw and edgy ‘Renegade’.  The models walked the catwalk to high impact music, cool background visuals, amazing lighting and flaming pyrotechnics!

Breast Friends Women Strut The Catwalk to a Standing Ovation

There were more surprises in the second half when the crowd was brought to tears hearing the inspirational stories of a group of women who have been battling breast cancer.

During a video broadcast, six women talked about how the charity Breast Friends and Sixth Sense Salon have supported them during difficult times.

As the sound system blasted out Alicia Keys’ hit song ‘This Girl Is On Fire’ and flames roared into the air, the magnificent six appeared on the catwalk and literally strutted their stuff, revealing their gorgeous new hair cuts and showing that they will not be beaten.  With barely a dry eye in the room, the audience rose to their feet to clap and cheer.

Salon Owner Dean Vinning Has Head Shaved On Stage for Charity

Sixth Sense Salon owners Dean Vinning and Dean Robertson shared the stage as they talked about their own journey towards owning a successful, award-winning salon in the heart of Sutton Coldfield.

The duo talked about their mission to try and change lives.  Dean Vinning said: “Over the past 12 months I have had the privilege to meet the most amazing women who have shared their stories with me.  They have helped me to understand what they’ve been through.”

Most of the audience were already familiar with Julie Emery through her video diary which shares her journey to grow back healthy hair with the help of Sixth Sense Salon and NIOXIN hair thickening products.  The salon’s work with Julie helped spearhead a national campaign with Wella Professionals’ NIOXIN to raise funds for cancer research.

Julie summed up the feelings of the Breast Friends group as she told the audience: “In my darkest days I found Breast Friends and Sixth Sense.”  She then joked that it was now time to turn the tables on Dean Vinning.  Brandishing hair clippers, she promptly shaved Dean’s hair in a bid to raise money for Breast Friends!

The event is likely to raise thousands of pounds, with all proceeds going to the Breast Friends charity.

Sixth Sense’s partnership with the Wella Professionals NIOXIN team was also evident on the night, with NIOXIN Ambassador Kay McIntyre and the Wella Professionals team offering NIOXIN consultations and prescribing complimentary NIOXIN product packs for guests.

Lifetime Achievement Award for Breast Friends Founder Jackie Benzecry

‘The Deans’ also presented a number of awards, most notably the Lifetime Achievement Award which went to Breast Friends Founder Jackie Benzecry, described as ‘one of Sutton’s most loved ladies’.

Other awards went to Judy Atkins (Client of the Year), make- up artist Kari Roberts (Creative Genius), Supplier of the Year (Sarah Meredith from Wella International) and Ev Morton (Inspiration Award).  Ev supported his partner throughout her battle with cancer and now looks after their three children following her passing.  The family won an all-expenses paid trip to Harry Potter World.

Sixth Sense Salon is no stranger to winning awards either!  The audience learned that the salon has enjoyed an amazing year, winning an impressive six awards, including West Midlands Salon of the Year.

Dean Robertson commended the Sixth Sense ‘family’ of stylists and top hair colour technicians for their passion and dedication in helping to make the salon so successful.

During the evening, the Deans managed to inspire, entertain and delight their audience with a second birthday celebration that was both fitting and memorable, and, in true Sixth Sense style, they ended the event on a high note with a hilarious video of ‘bloopers’ from their many inspirational videos.

Perceptions Hair Collection

“Beauty is defined by the person, not the perception” – Dean Vinning, Sixth Sense Salon Director

In a world that is driven by the media’s perception of beauty, we have forgotten that only 8% of the population actually fits within the criteria of the so called perfect model / person.

Perceptions is the new hair collection from Sixth Sense Salon in Sutton Coldfield.  It celebrates real beauty and gorgeous everyday hairstyles, as showcased by real client who wear our hair every day.

Be your own kind of beautiful.  Be you!

Sixth Sense has been helping Julie grow back healthy hair after she suffered hair loss during chemotherapy treatment. We’ve shaped Julie’s hair into a lovely short pixie cut and keeping her natural hair colour. This makes the most of Julie’s bone structure and is a young, fresh look for women of any age.

Products used: NIOXIN bodyfying mouse, NIOXIN Diaboost / Definition Cream

Golden sun-kissed long hair with beautiful cascading waves have been created for college girl Ellie. Like many busy people, Ellie longed for a low maintenance, wearable look.  The seamless ‘bronde’ effect hair colour was created using a personalised Sixth Sense hair colouring technique internal toning.

Products used: Wella EIMI Natural Volume Mousse and EIMI BB Cream.

Educator Vivien has been given a short and structured classic hair cut which is brought to life with a soft brunette with a hint of red/gold.  This colour enhances the natural warmth in her skin tone to ensure she remains radiant throughout the day.

Products used: EIMI Body Crafter, EIMI Boost Bounce & EIMI Thermal Image

Business woman Angela needs a stylish yet wearable hairstyle which can take her from the kitchen, where she creates her famous Yipsy Macarons, to meetings with clients.  We gave Angela a blunt shoulder length bob which can be worn straight for no-nonsense meetings or in waves for a more relaxed style. We used a new on-trend hair colour effect called Ecaille which gives the hair an almost tortoise shell look.

Product used: System Professional Luxe Oil, System Professional Volume Mousse and System Professional Perfect Hold Hair Spray

Band member Jacob’s naturally curly hair has been layered and left long so it can be worn ‘messy’ for a rock star look, or blow dried smooth for a day-time look.  By adding the right hair products, Jacob can now transform his looks in an instant.

Products used: Sebastian Taming Elixir, Sebastian Trilliance and Sebastian Micro-Fibre Web

A soft hairstyle has been paired with a dramatic platinum colour for Kelly. She works within the pub trade so was looking for a style she can easily maintain.  We added a block colour to Kelly’s hair (which Sixth Sense have cheekily called Touch Me All Over!) and added a platinum ice pastel toner on top. We gave Kelly’s hair an internal disconnected cut to add movement.

Products used: System Professional Perfect Hair, System Professional Pefect Ends & System Professional Aero Lifter Mousse

On Sunday 1st May the 6S creative team took over Zero One Zero Studio in central Birmingham to create a very special hair collection called Perceptions which concentrates on the real people who wear our hair every day.

It truly was an inspiring day where we introduced six of our amazing clients to the fabulous world of professional hair photography / videography.

First Birthday Celebrations at Sixth Sense

Happy Birthday Sixth Sense!

There was laughter, tears and lots of fun as we celebrated Sixth Sense Salon’s first birthday at a glamorous event at The Royal Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.

Local press, businesses, suppliers and VIP clients were treated to free-flowing champagne, stunning Yipsy Macarons along with an emotional roller-coaster of a show.

One of the highlights saw inspirational local woman Julie Emery tell guests her emotional and moving story about her recovery from breast cancer.  Sixth Sense Salon are treated Julie’s hair and scalp with NIOXIN to help her grow back hair that is thick and healthy after it fell out during chemotherapy treatments.

Julie has created a video diary of her hair journey.   NIOXIN caters for both men and women who are losing hair either through thinning, balding or the side effects of medical treatments. NIOXIN cleanses the scalp, stimulates the hair follicles and encourages hair to grow.

Dean Vinning said: “It just seems amazing how such a small business with a little kindness, time and compassion can help not just one person, but everyone following Julie’s story.”

The event then moved onto the client and supplier award where Sixth Sense gave awards to the key people who have contributed to their success over the past months, awards were handed out to:

*Additional awards handed out to guests who couldn’t make the night include Hair Goes Digital Award to SALON GURU & High Street Hero’s to College News

Another highlight was the Sixth Sense Salon Hair / Fashion / Beauty show showcasing hair by Sixth Sense, clothing by Disorder Boutique and Burbo K’ture, and make-up by the talented Kari Roberts.

Perhaps saving the best until last, the crowd gave a standing ovation when Julie Emery appeared on the catwalk rocking a Burbo K’ture dress.   When she got to the end of the catwalk she turned to the crowd and whipped off her wig to showcase her dramatic hair growth.

It’s amazing to think that salon owners Dean Vinning & Dean Robertson opened this salon 12 months ago with no client base and only 3 team members. A year later and we have 9 team members who are now booked out weeks in advance with hundreds of happy customers.

We believe our success is down to our ability to create phenomenal hair cuts and colours, and to ensure our clients have a fantastic time when they are with us.  After all, our mission statement is “Make Everybody Feel Like Somebody.”

Dean Vinning said: “What a night!  We’d like to thank all our clients for helping to make the past year such a tremendous success and we look forward to creating more fantastic hair cuts, styles and colours for the next year and beyond.”

To make booking please call 0121 362 2311 or book online.

NIOXIN Diary – with Julie Emery @ Sixth Sense Salon

In line with our official product launch of NIOXIN in early October, Sixth Sense Salon are humbled to work alongside Julie Emery, who was recommended as a perfect model for the NIOXIN Program by charity Breast Friends in Sutton Coldfield.

Julie is 40 years old and resides in Sutton Coldfield with her husband Michael; in February this year (2015) Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer which turned her world upside down. Since then she has had a number of operations to remove the cancer and has recently completed her last course of Chemotherapy. Julie is still going through radiotherapy treatment but this is precautionary with the type of treatment that Julie has had.

The next stage is recovery and we at Sixth Sense wanted to contribute to this by ensuring that Julie’s hair comes back stronger, healthier and, of course, more fabulous than before.

Julie commented: “I’m about to embark on a 12 month documented journey with Sixth Sense Salon to regrow my hair using the NIOXIN treatment system. I’m really nervous, but excited at the same time. I’m not sure what my expectations are, but I do want my luscious locks back”.

Following Julie’s journey over the next 12 months from day one, week two and then 4 weekly intervals all updates will be on our website:  or Facebook Page @Sixth Sense Salon

WORK HARD PLAY HARDER BY SIXTH SENSE SALONLeft to Right – Kimmy, Dean, Burbo, Conna-Rae, Tash & Kari

Elegance meets edgy with the Sixth Sense Salon Autumn / Winter Collection – Work Hard, Play Harder…

The shoot follows five models, each with different personalities working their 9 till 5, all “Waiting for the Weekend to Begin”. Then when it finally does, their hair is completely transformed into fabulous evening / party hair, getting ready for the night ahead.

As with all of their shoots, The Sixth Sense Creative Team will only use raw models with very little or no experience; their aim is to make everyone beautiful and they do it with incredible taste.

Salon Director Dean Vinning commented “This shoot was all about making a connection with our clients and using local independent businesses to promote not only our salon, but establishing Sutton Coldfield as the ultra-cool sister suburb to Birmingham. I’m really proud of our creative team who have worked hard to create these trends and would like to thank all of the local businesses involved who helped make it happen”.

The 6S Creative Team hope you LOVE the Work Hard, Play Harder collection and hope to see you in the salon soon…

The Clubber

Born to party, lives for the weekend; the clubber has short, edgy, texturised hair using different shades of pastel blues, reds and pinks. This is statement hair at it’s best and truly reflects The Clubber’s personality.

Elegant and sophisticated, the VIP wears her hair long with a dramatic modern day marcel wave using a deep peach colour to create a beautiful rose gold colour, adding a bit of warmth into the blonde as we come into the Autumn / Winter months.

Passionate about two things, getting the party started and looking amazing whilst doing it. The DJ has a short texturised bob with a rich magenta colour with dark undertones. The style is easy to manage while on the decks but still remaining beautiful.

Diva takes inspiration from late 80’s to current day divas including Whitney Houston to Beyoncé. The hair is worn bouncy with dark curls and prominent highlights to make the final result fierce with a hint of girl next door.

The Metrosexual looks amazing and knows it… He’s well groomed, well dressed and knows how to work the camera. He has his hair short but long enough to run your figures through and styled to perfection.

Work Hard Play Harder –Behind the Scenes

It was a strangely sunny day on Saturday 1st August, after a week of rain the clouds parted and the sun shone on what going to be an epic day of creative hair, extraordinary makeup, high end fashion and amazing photography with support from our camera crew to capture the whole thing…

Planning for this shoot started three months ago after #one Collection, we wanted it to be bigger, better and more organised than the last. After multiple meetings with the creative team, Work Hard Play Harder was created; a shoot which incorporated normal people with normal hair doing what they do on a normal week day. Then when the weekend hits, everything changes and they turn into ultra-glam individuals, loving life, each with their own personality / image.

We actually shot WHPH in 5 separate locations, all of which local business who kindly let us use their premises to shoot the models doing different types of day jobs and then two Sutton Coldfield night spots where the models ended the night in true party style.

The shoot wouldn’t of been possible without a fantastic production team so would like to thank: The 6S Team for their continued dedicated hard work, Bubo K’ture for the fabulous fashion styling, Disorder Boutique for part of the stunning wardrobe, Dart Media & Photography for the superb video / photographs, Kari Roberts for the makeup and Adam @ Funk Farm Productions for writing the soundtrack for the trend video…

Also thanks to the local businesses who helped us create our autumn / Winter collection: Gill @ Nero e Bianco, Matt @ Under Pressure Expresso, Lorraine @ The Royal Hotel, Ian @ Mother of all Sins Tattoo Studio and Jonny at iBar.

Last but not least, big loves to the beautiful models who gave up their spare time to help us create a very special collection: Maddie, Emily, Glen, Annie and Juste. You guys nailed it!!!

We really hope you guys enjoy the behind the scenes video and watch this space for when we release the full Work Hard Play Harder Autumn / Winter collection on Tuesday 1st September…

Behind the scenes at the 6S new hair collection

#one Collection – behind the scenes with Sixth Sense Hair & Beauty

Sixth Sense Art TeamThe creative team from Sixth Sense Hair & Beauty in Sutton Coldfield are delighted to give you a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of their very first hair collection photo & video shoot!

Filmed at the beautiful Grimscote Manor Hotel in Coleshill on May 3rd, it’s fair to say that everyone was excited, nervous but, more importantly, everyone was ready to create something amazing.

The RoomGrimscote Manor Hotel pulled out all the stops, closing the hotel and giving us full access to all rooms and grounds.

The team immediately set to work starting to prepare the models in the beautifully decorated Guild Room; there were 5 models in total, four girls and one boy.

The film crew and photographer at Dart Media immediately made everyone feel at ease; the guys Abi & Deanwere true professionals with a great sense of humour. They really understood how to get the best out of each of the models and ensured that the shots were exactly what we were looking for.

When it came to clothing, we worked alongside some fantastic brands including Next, Disorder Boutique and individual fashion designer Burbo K’ture.

Each one collection at sixth sense hairbrand brought something completely different to the table, giving each model a different look.

We also had some great support from Wella Professionals who provided the styling products for the shoot from the brand new EIMI styling range.

The day was long, eventful and fun with the occasional drama, but you know what they say: “Nothing worth Cakeshaving comes easy.”

The #one Summer Collection will be officially launched on Monday 1st June @ 20:00 so look out for our trend video, photo gallery and description of each hair trend.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy our behind the scenes pictures and video (below) which give you a glimpse of Sixth Sense’s first hair collection #one – Summer 2015.

Enjoy!  Loves The 6S Team xx

PS – Special shout outs to the amazing MUA Kari Roberts and Groove Digital Records for providing the sound track by Becki De Funk & Danny Kayne – Do Me Right Now (released 1st June).
