At Sixth Sense Salon, our team is the future of our brand. We genuinely love each and every team member and talk about goals and aspirations, and support each other’s visions. In fact, a large part of what we do as Sixth Sense managers is inspiring the team to do great things; encouraging staff to develop themselves but to also treat the salon as their own business. The holds especially true with our youngest staff members, who we call Our Future Superstars (we don’t call them apprentices or juniors), who we put at the top of our company organisational chart as without them we are unable to do our job without them. And, just last night, our efforts to foster the next generation were recognised because we won a regional award in The National Apprenticeship Awards 2017.
Our award was small Employer of the year West Midlands region and it puts us in the ranks of other winners including BBC, Volvo & Landrover. Not only this but this puts us through to the National Final on 18th Jan 2018, where we will be the only hairdressing salon shortlisted.
If you are a Sixth Sense client, you probably know the big effort we put in ‘To Make Everybody Feel Like Somebody‘. However, this also applies to our team who have to feel happy and supported in their role. Our Future Superstars are the back bone of our business and every single one of them is classed as a full team member and receives all the benefits that every other employee receives. Upon starting within our business, each Future Superstar is given an in-salon mentor, someone who will take them through their education programme. We set a 12-month training matrix which takes them through their modules but also gives them hands-on experience within the salon working with our customers every day. We also regularly take our future superstars to a lot of external, events and awards so we can inspire them and make them feel valued within our company. These guys are our future, they are the next generation of our brand and we need to ensure that they fully supported, loved and have to hunger to be very best they can be!
We are delighted our training and values have been recognised with such an award (we don’t do it for the recognition, but it’s always nice). The National Apprenticeship Awards recognise excellence in businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships and apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces. They provide businesses and individuals with a platform to showcase how apprenticeships have made a real difference to their organisation and their careers. We are nothing without our lovely clients and our awesome staff and we work hard to make everyone feel appreciated. Now we’re off to find a loction for our new shiny trophy! #smugpants
