Which hairstyle suits your face shape?

What is it that makes the perfect hairstyle?  At Sixth Sense Hair & Beauty in Sutton Coldfield we can create the ideal hairstyle and colour for you.    One of the key areas we look at is your face shape.  We will find a hairstyle and hair cut that flatters your face shape – whether you have a round, oval, long, square or heart-shaped face.

Hair-Cuts-and-Hairstyles-to-Suit-Face-Shapes

Not sure what shape your face is?  Try this trick!  Pull your hair back in a ponytail or slick it away from your face, grab a lipstick and look at yourself straight-on in a mirror.  Lightly draw on your mirror using the lipstick – tracing around the shape of your face.

Hair Styles for Round Faces

If you have a round face shape we will aim to make your face appear slimmer with a great hair cut or style.  Singer Adele gets it just right with her backcombed beehive.  By adding height and keeping the style tight at the sides, Adele creates the illusion of a longer face.  The style is softened with a pretty wavy fringe.

Avoid very short hairstyles because they tend to make round faces look bigger.   A graduated bob is a better option for round faces, as worn by singer Kelly Clarkson.  The front of her hair has been left slightly longer, elongating the face making her face appear narrow.

Long hair can look great if you have a round face, as you can see from Kirsten Dunst’s long hairstyle.  Opt for a side fringe and add volume on top.

Hair Ideas for Long Face Shapes

Add width to your hairstyle and consider a fringe if you want to give more balance to a long face.  We’d generally advise against wearing your hair long unless you are prepared to add volume to your hairstyle.

Model Giselle Bundchen  has naturally curly hair which adds width.  She, therefore, looks great with long hair.  Actress Liv Tyler looks great when she has a fringe  or when she wears her hair scraped back in an upstyle or high ponytail.  Fringes are great for long face shapes as they hide a long forehead.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker‘s upstyle is low and wide which shortens and widens her face, making it more in proportion.

Hair Styles for Oval Face Shapes

Oval face shapes are the most versatile face shapes when it comes to choosing hairstyles.  You can wear your hair in just about any style!

Megan Fox adopts all sorts of different hairstyles and can wear her hair long and straight, with big bouncy curls or scraped up into a severe top knot.

Actress Mena Suvari has an oval face which means she can wear her hair in any style.  This soft upstyle with a long fringe is a great casual style for an evening out.

Another actress, Reece Witherspoon, has a strong jawline which she balances out with long hair and a blunt fringe.

The Perfect Hair Cut for Square Faces

Once again, the key to a great hairstyle for square face shapes is to add balance by making the face appear longer.  Actress Katie Holmes balances out her square face with a voluminous blow dry.

We also love actress Keira Knightley’s adorable wavy bob –  a great hair length for square face shapes.

Actress Minnie Driver looks great with a centre parting and a longer style.  The centre parting helps to balance out a wide forehead.  If you are looking to add balance to a strong jawline, consider a chin-length hair cut.
